The first enterprise AI projects often began with a simple ambition: connect a model to the app. But once organizations started thinking about real operational use, they discovered that model access solves only a small part of the problem.

To deploy agent behavior safely, companies need permissions, action logging, approval routing, tool registries, memory boundaries and rollback logic. In other words, they need an execution stack, not just a prompt surface.

What this means for product teams

It means the control plane is becoming just as important as the model plane. Vendors that can offer disciplined orchestration may outcompete vendors that offer only strong raw intelligence with weak operational controls.
